- POLINUM, French platform for digital books
- 10th May, 2010, Expertise and know-how.
- The digitization of our heritage, whether cultural, industrial or informational, has become one of today's technological, economic and societal objectives. It raises a number of questions related to access to knowledge and optimization of content.
Polinum, launched in December 2009, is a platform for digital books, intended to provide a technological and economic response to these questions. This collaborative research and development consortium for the digitization and optimization of industrial and informational heritage pursues several objectives related to cultural, editorial and economic optimization:
- The creation of complete digitization chains, going from digitization to distribution via screens and modules integrating the most advanced technologies currently available;
- It constitutes an R&D center to improve the entire technological chain, guaranteeing the interoperability of content, establishing standards and anticipating uses and needs;
- It offers publishers and industrial or legacy content owners, both in the private and public sectors, the capacity to create, test and validate their business models.
Polinum, presented by the i2S company, is co-financed by the Aquitaine Regional Council and FEDER European funds. It has premises on the university campuses of Bordeaux. In addition to i2S, Polinum brings together the Aquitaine based companies of Amanager and Arkhenum, the Labri laboratory and software provider Exalead on its advisory board. It has received the quality label of the Route des Lasers Competitiveness Cluster.
